Murder Mysteries:

Not only Murder Mysteries, but Non-Murder Mysteries and other improvisational entertainments comprise what we call Portable Improv Entertainment ( P.I.E.), which is the core of our product line. To see a list of titles, click on our Catalog of Murder Mystery Shows.

The distinguishing characteristics of Red Herring are that we go to your location, that we provide a lot of audience interaction, and that our primary goal is for everyone to have fun.

We're well-versed in dealing with audiences of different sizes. Within Mysteries, we'll also do B&B Murder Weekends, in which we'll supply each of your guests with a complete back story establishing them as suspects with motive and opportunity to a crime that they will help solve. We supply actors, coaching and a game host for a full weekend of fabulous fun. We also provide Small Mysteries designed for groups of twenty or fewer, where we adapt our classic game scenarios to a more intimate gathering in the setting of your choice. Sometimes we do Benefit Fundraisers. We've worked with a long list of publicly- and privately-funded institutions to freshen up old techniques with inviting and humorous results.

Our prices are comparable to the cost of a band. The nominal size of a Red Herring murder mystery cast is 8 actors. This cast size would be smaller for smaller audiences or larger for larger audiences. Our prices are lower for locations closer to Colorado Springs and higher for locations farther away; and slightly higher for shows in the middle of the week. The terms would include a 10% deposit with the balance due 30 minutes before the start of the show, plus the inclusion of the Red Herring cast members in the count for dinner, lunch, munchies or whatever the audience is having to eat. In addition, we ask for the provision of overnight accomodations for the cast for locations greater than 100 miles from Colorado Springs, CO. Typically, accomodations would be one room for every two cast members, two beds in each room, non-smoking.

Characters:

We provide two types of characters: theme characters and first-person historical figures.

Theme characters walk around, meet and greet, and help make guests feel at home in the time and location they're portraying. We typically supply the roaring twenties or the old the West, but other eras are available. The terms and price, on a per-character basis, would be the same as for a murder mystery.

First-person characters bring history to life by combining historical facts, dramatic impersonation, and a few leaps of the imagination into an fascinating presentation that will entertain and enlighten your group for anywhere from one half to two hours. Plus, we love to interact with individuals and respond to questions. They're the next best thing to time travel. The terms would be the same as for a murder mystery. Contact us for a price.

Our current ensemble of first-person characters includes:

Teddy Roosevelt

Helen Hunt Jackson

Julie and Spencer Penrose

A Cowboy Poet

Buffalo Bill Cody

Calamity Jane

Other Kinds of Shows:

We're capable of producing a variety of shows that call for improvisation and audience interaction, including talent shows and "This Is Your Life"-style reminiscences. All are well suited for visitors' bureaus, events at conventions, and evening ice breakers where you need to establish a relaxed atmosphere and tone.
