The Show: Characters

The Location: The Royal Gorge Railroad

The Audience: The Public

Kitten With A Whip

The RGRR invited us to film scenes for inclusion in their nationally-distributed promotional video. We gladly accepted.

Since we weren't sure exactly what the video would require, we brought along more equipment than we actually needed. But that was OK. It gave us something to have fun with while we were waiting for our chance to go on.

Monsoon

Recent rains across Colorado have brought much-needed moisture and greened the vegetation nicely.

Hot

Still, in the midst of the July it felt good to have that 12-mile-per-hour breeze blowing through and cooling our costumes.

Slice of life

Even though we weren't doing a regular show, we enjoyed schmoozing with the passengers. Here, Mary from Iowa shows some of the skills she learned on the farm.

To make the video, we pulled together four characters from Salt Creek, but actually performed scenes from three different shows.

O body swayed to music, O brightening glance...

Miss Hallie, the owner of the Silver Queen Saloon, gives last-minute instructions to Lacy Miller, who doesn't seem to be paying attention.

Wendy

The Conductor is the staff member in charge of the whole train. She, and not the engineer, decides when it will go and when it will stop.

Barry

The accordian player keeps the mood light, but he has a secret...

... he used to give bull-whip demonstrations at Knott's Berry Farm.

And here, face down upon earth's noonward height

To feel the always coming on, the always rising of the night

The late afternoon sun slants its rays almost directly down the gorge...

... until at last it touches only the mountain tops...

... and leaves the canyon below in twilight.

And one last piece of advice:

When giving a bull-whip demonstration, try to keep your eyes open.
